About us

The year was 1704. Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji and his fierce Khalsa warriors had finished fighting a valiant war against tyranny at Chamkaur Sahib. Guru Sahib had spiritually liberated the Chali Mukte (40 liberated ones) at Muktsar. Travelling on, they reached the blessed land of Sabho ki Talwandi (Takht Sri Damdama Sahib), where the writings of the universal and eternal Guru, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, were completed. On the journey between Muktsar and Sabho ki Talwandi, Guru Sahib rested at a number of villages and cities. Many of these have become Gurdwaras and historicals records of the Guru’s miracles. One such location in the densely forested lands of Lakhi Jungle was a sandhill. Guru Gobind Singh Ji stayed here for 17 days with Mata Sahib Kaur Ji and an entourage of 23 Khalsa, performing spiritual discourses on Sri Chaupai Sahib. This uniquely spiritual place is where Gurdwara Sewewala Sahib now stands.

Since the days when Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s charan kamal walked on this holy land, Gurdwara Sewewala Sahib has been blessed with the presence of many great saints (Society of Saints page link). The powerful effect of hundreds of years of meditation on this one spot is an aura of peace, love and divinity which radiates from the Gurdwara. Throughout the year, worldwide sangat arrives to partake in blissful programmes (calendar link), voluntary service and focused meditation, for their spiritual, mental and physical wellbeing. The head Sewadars of the Gurdwara, Baba Gurbax Singh Ji and Dr Baba Karandeep Singh Ji, with the blessings of Brahmgiani Beeba Nihal Kaur Ji, endeavour to join all to a blissful life through the breath-taking teachings of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

Beeba Nihal Kaur Ji

Gurdwara Sewewala Sahib has the tap asthaan (seat of meditation) of Baba Asa Singh Ji, another great saint, who laid the foundation stone of the Gurdwara. Nearby, in the village itself, stands the janam asthaan (birth place) of Beeba Nihal Kaur Ji, along with their place of residence. Despite being located in a gang-led area, the Gurdwara is a positive and lively place with the aim to uplift the people of Punjab and connect all worldwide sangat to the beautiful Sikh faith.Gurdwara Sewewala Sahib has incorporated many historical traditions which are unfortunately being forgotten. It is the only Gurdwara in North India which has Sri Akhand Paaths of of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Sri Dasam Granth Sahib and Sri Sarbloh Granth Sahib Ji. Here, the Sewadaars (volunteers) focus strongly on Mata Sahib Kaur Ji, whose teachings are making a huge impact on local girls and women. These blessings inspire people from across the world to visit the Gurdwara, seeking the uplifting and refreshing approach of female-centric parchar.

Beeba Nihal Kaur Ji were dedicated and inspired by the life, values and inspiration of Mata Sahib Kaur Ji. The Gurdwara continues to celebrate our eternal Mother of the Khalsa. Every year, our soul-stirring, week-long programme celebrates the birth of Mata Sahib Kaur Ji.
